About Into the Glacier Experience

For the past five years some of the world's top engineers, geophysicists and glacier specialists have been carefully studying, planning, and modelling an exciting, new ice cave tunnel underneath Iceland’s 2nd largest glacier, Langjokull.

The Into the Glacier experience offers visitors an amazing, authentic opportunity to explore a glacier from the inside. Opened in June 2015, it is one of the world’s hottest NEW travel experiences according to Lonely Planet.

Shuttle to Into the Glacier departs from Hotel Husafell every Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Monday at 12:30 pm. Daily departures begin April 1, 2016.

Northern Lights Season in the Aurora Zone

Iceland’s Northern Lights Season begins in late August and lasts until mid-April with peak sightings between Nov-Feb. Vikings believed the colorful waves of light were the Valkyries riding across the sky, but today we know Aurora Borealis is caused by solar winds reacting with the Earths’ magnetic field in the Polar regions.

Although every region in Iceland claims the best Aurora sightings, there must be a reason why the Northern Lights Institute has been located in West Iceland for over 30 years. When sighting are particularly good, we invite hotel guests to enjoy the view from our outdoor geothermally heated hot tubs.
